Classical poetry style. It may be applied to works from the ancient Graeco-Roman tradition or those written in imitation of it. And, of course, the ancient world gave us poetry. Unlike kanshi, waka refers to poetry composed in Japanese. PoetrySoup is a great educational poetry resource of famous classical poems. Classicism in the theatre was developed by 17th century French playwrights from what they judged to be the rules of Greek classical theatre, including the "Classical unities" of time, place and action, found in the Poetics of Aristotle. Thus, all poetry that was written in the classical style is called "classical" or "traditional poetry" since it follows the traditional style and structure. Its influence was felt across continents and through every artistic discipline into the mid-nineteenth century, and many of its values and beliefs can still be seen in contemporary poetry.
